Vikings Legend Tarkenton: Favre is “Despicable”
Former Minnesota Vikings Quarterback Fran Tarkenton has launched a tirade against Brett Favre, speaking with 790 The Zone radio in Atlanta. Tarkenton criticized Favre for his treatment of the Green Bay Packers organization, and even went as far as wishing that Favre will join the Vikings and fail, saying:
I think it’s despicable. What he put the Packers through last year was not good. Here’s an organization that was loyal to him for 17, 18 years, provided stability of organization, provided players… He goes to New York and bombs. He’s 39 years old. How would you like Ray Nitschke in his last year (playing for) the Vikings, or I retire and go play for the Packers. I kind of hope it happens, so he can fail.”
Tarkenton didn’t stop there, however. He went on to criticize Favre’s on the field performance (while throwing a little jab at Eli Manning):
I think he (Favre) has been a great, flamboyant quarterback, but he has made more stupid plays than any great quarterback that I’ve ever seen. Look at his final game in a Packers uniform. He blew that game against the Giants. He’s playing against Eli Manning. I love Eli Manning, but he’s still not a great quarterback. He’s not Peyton yet, or Tom Brady. He’s just a guy. And they’re (Packers) playing at home, and they’re in a tight situation, they went to overtime and he (Favre) throws an interception that allows them (Giants) to come back and win the game… He has done that and driven his coaches crazy all of his career.
On the one hand, it can be said that Tarkenton is absolutely right. The dictionary definition of “despicable” is “deserving of contempt or scorn.” And during Favre’s 16 seasons with Green Bay, he certainly was viewed as contemptible by the football fans west of the Wisconsin-Minnesota border. And, going along with Tarkenton’s second comment, Favre is the all-time NFL interceptions leader. Having said that, nothing is more pleasing to a Minnesota Vikings fan than seeing a Packers fan squirm. And in recent conversations with Packers fans, it is clear that there is nothing they would hate more than seeing Brett Favre in a Vikings uniform. In that case, bring him on!
For the record, here’s a stats comparison between Tarkenton (the greatest QB in Vikings history) and Favre (ditto for the Pack):

I need some more feedback before I can make a judgement. Can someone get O.J. on the phone? Anyone? How about Deacon Jones or any other football player from the 70s. The real question is will there be a sequel to There’s Something About Mary and will Favre reprise his role.
I raised my eyebrows when hearing Fran’s comment. On the other hand, I’m getting tired of Brett’s act. It’s a shame that this stuff is how a great career will end. Then again, I like the question posed by someone else …. will Brett appeal to the NCAA for additional eligibility?
Right on Fran…good riddance to the phony Favre!!
Favre is an a**hole. End of story.
